Blinded by the White EcoLicious Makeover

We had the pleasure to demo our products at the grand opening of a new tack store and wanted to showcase our powerful duo – Squeaky Green & Clean Deep Cleansing and Conditioning Shampoo and our  Blinded by the White Total Body Whitening Treatment – in action. And showcase it was. Check out the pics below. Relatively a white horse, wouldn’t you say?

BEFORE

This makeover took a place in the middle of a dry season in Manitoba, so this guys does not resemble the usual muddy monster horse like to work with, but we must say the results aren’t any less stunning.  A seemingly not that dirty white horse turning blindingly white.  That white that we had to put on our shades or our eyes would have hurt.

New EcoLicious Whitener Formula:The Test Results Took Our Breath Away

Results of our new whitener formula test are IN! Meet Spirit – a 7 year old Bashkir Curly – with a manure & urine discolored tail. His owner Sherri has been using our products on him for over year and when she heard we were developing a whitener, she wanted to be the first one to test it.

Spirit - A Bashkir Curly

This whitener formula is like all our other grooming products free of nasty chemicals, parabens and silicones and contain no peroxide. It’s made with one of the most powerful natural bleach- lemons.

First we washed his tail with our Squeaky Green & Clean Deep Cleansing and Conditioning Shampoo. This “baby” itself is pretty powerful in removing yellow stains and together with the whitener they make a serious stain busting duo.

Check out the below Before & After Close Ups. We held his tail next to his hind end to show the contrast.  Sherri’s first comment was: “He’s got a Barbie tail”. That just about sums it up. What do you think?

And here is a regular Before & After Shot. As soon as it warms up a bit we will give this horse a full EcoLicious Beauty Makeover so stay tuned!

We will be launching this product next month, but before that, we will have a product naming contest.  You can help us pick the best name for a chance to win the first bottle.

EcoLicious Beauty Tip: Dry & Cracked Hoofs

Does your horse suffer from dry, cracked feet? Healthy hoof  is covered with a natural coating that prevents escape of moisture from the hoof.  When it is compromised, your horse’s feet suffer. Dry, brittle hoofs are caused by dry, hot and sandy environmental conditions, poor diet stripped of nutrients and previous hoof desease such as laminitis. If your’ horse’s Mom & Dad had dry, brittle feet your horse will likely end up with same. Genetics.

healthy hoofs, happy horse

Dry, brittle hooves can quickly deteriorate and can split or deeper cracks develop. The frog can become dry and hard as well, and contract, along with the heel. The frog functions as a cushion, which becomes impossible when it is dry.  It can  be painful and result in lameness. When deep cracks develop, foreign material that lodges in the hoof cracks can cause infection, thrush etc.

Dry, brittle feet can be managed or avoided. Check out the tips below:

Moist area in the paddock (often around water troughs), where the horse will stand long enough for moisture to go into the hooves. But don’t think wet, muddy paddock will do your horse any good. These are perfect conditions in which thrush thrive.

Nutritional Boost. Add some biotin and methionine supplements to your horse’s diet.

Proper & regular hoof trimming.

Hoof  treatments/ dressings to moisturize the hoof. Try our 100% Natural Therapeutic Hoof Serum Hoof  Therapy. It is made with Organic Hemp, Wheat Germ, Apricot Kernel and Olive Oil which rich in the essential fatty acids vital for healthy hoof growth. Hoof Therapy moisturizes dry, cracked hoofs, softens hardened frogs, treats contracted heels and protects against the elements. It also contains Tea Tree Oil, Burdock Leaf Extract and Lavender, which are known for their antibacterials properties.

Winter Grooming Tips – Protect the Tail

Winter & early spring can be hard on tails with all the mud and ”poop soup”. To keep your horse’s tail clean you can do two things.

  • Put your horse’s tail into a commercial tail bag.
  • Protect it with a braid.

For lovely locks it’s important that you bag or braid a clean tail. You can safely bathe the bottom of the tail below the tail bone even in cold weather. Make sure to use a gentle shampoo without Sodium Lauryl & Sodium Laureth Sulphate (common ingredient in majority of horse shampoos on the market that is toxic to fish and wildlife) such as Squeaky Green & Clean. Always apply a tail conditioner before bagging/ braiding to prevent breakage. Go silicone free since silicone prevents hair from breathing and without oxygen the hair cannot regenerate. Try our 100% natural De-Stress Intensive Restructuring Treatment that is readily absorbed and doesn’t suffocate your horse’s tail.

Protect your horse's tail with a braid

How to Braid:

Divide the hair into three sections, wrap each section in a commercial tail tube protector (you can also use strips of torn bedsheet or an old pair of pantyhose) then braid the sections together. Once you hit the end of the tail continue braiding  for a few inches then finish off with a knot.

Winter Grooming Tips

Does your horse look like a mud monster? Are you short on time, but still want to squeeze in a ride? If the idea of your filthy horse makes you want to  curl up on a couch with a good book instead, don’t give up.

All you need to do is focus on the areas that need to be groomed for your horse’s comfort and safety and leave a more thorough groom when you have more time.  Must groom spots include the obvious saddle, bridle and girth area as well as areas behind your horse’s pasterns, elbows and under his jaw. Dirt and debris accumulated on these areas can cause rubbing, which inevitably leads to abrasions or skin infections such as mud fever, rain scald  or bacterial folliculitis.
